There have been two distinguished subjects related to science and technologies need to be overhauled comprehensively. First, science and technology was studied and developed in such a way resulted a huge materialistic civilization. The materialistic concept has infiltrated so deep to the element of science and technology that it becomes separated from the principles of Islamic teaching. Second, strategy for development of science and technology that directed exclusively for practical purposes, to construct human life more convenience, obviously has created destruction and global crisis. As one of the bounties from Allah the All Mighty, science and technology have to be developed and reconstructed toward the correct direction. Islam views science and technology as the product of human efforts that could be utilized as means complete all the authorized projects from Allah the All Mighty. Additionally, science and technology are useful for human being leading to know himself/herself and to comprehend the creation processes and other natural phenomenon so that he/she can please his/her creator. Therefore, development of science and technology along with its direction should be conducted within the boundary of Islamic teaching so that it becomes bounty for human being other than disaster.

Objective

To perform study, research, comparison and construction of strategy for development of science and technology to become ideal means for human being to perform righteous deeds and to acquire the Please from Allah the All Mighty.

Mission

1. To build the ummah awareness toward the importance of science and technology development and stimulate them to be self-dependence from the influence of Western concept.
2. To awaken the ummah to understand the importance of science and technology islamization as part of the whole life.
3. To promote the need to construct the ideal strategy for development of science and technology for the future.
4. To provide correct information about science and technology and “I’jazul Qur’an” related to science and technology that may lead to increase the believe quality of ummah.
5. To conduct research and assessment of science and technology related to the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

Establishment

Institute for Science and Technology Studies was established in March 1996 under the umbrella of Al-Beroone Foundation.

Achievement

Up to now ISTECS has conducted three national seminars. The first two seminars were related to the Islamization of Science and Technology, while the third seminar was on “Strategy for The Ummah Transformation towards Industrial Society”. The seminars involved several well-known professionals, scientists, technocrats and parliament member. Through these seminars, ISTECS has been known nationally via several famous national television and mass media coverage’s. Therefore, ISTECS is currently acquiring recognition from either governmental institution or non-governmental institution as well as general public. On 26 of December 1996, ISTECS European Branch is conducting a Colloquium on Natural and Social Sciences and Technology in Frankfurt, Germany. Additionally, ISTECS has published proceeding on the first two seminar (ISSN #: 0854-8692).
